Competition pools the creativity of young talents to build a beautiful China
To implement the “carbon peak and carbon neutrality” policy and the 14th Five-Year Plan, and respond to the call of “Beautiful China - Youth Action” promoted by the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Youth League, SKSHU Paint Co., Ltd. and the 3TREES Charitable Foundation once again joined the CESP Project in launching the “Beautiful China - Youth Action” 3TREES College Competition on Creative Environmental Protection Ideas. This year’s competition solicits creative product designs from college students on the theme of “recycling”, including low-carbon solutions for paint buckets and the design and production of eco-friendly cultural creative products, and looks for ways to integrate the green and low-carbon concept into everyday life. Meanwhile, to warm up for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, the competition also echoes the Games’ vision of “sustainable future” and supports the participating teams to design recycling bags on the Winter Olympic theme - Moment of China, Excellence Together, and carry out public awareness and communication campaigns on low-carbon and green lifestyle. By pooling the wisdom and strength of the youth, the competition provides a powerful endorsement of the concept of green Winter Olympics and low-carbon lifestyle.
This year’s competition was participated by over 310 teams from 140 colleges and universities across the country, and finally received more than 290 submissions of creative environmental designs. Over 100 instructors offered guidance to the student teams, and some 3.7 million college students nationwide benefited from the event.
Ten teams competing online in final PK, showing unchained creativity of environmental designs
To complement the national policy of “carbon peak and carbon neutrality”, this year’s final PK adopted a new form of online competition. The ten final teams from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tianjin University, Shanghai University, Xiamen University, East China University of Science and Technology, Soochow University, Northeastern University, Southeast University, as well as the alliance of Shantou University and Guangxi Normal University, and the joint team of Xi’an Jiaotong University and China Academy of Art presented and defended their works online. The creative ideas in their designs and the diverse means they have chosen to share and present their works are a perfect demonstration of the appeal of environmental creativity and the energy of the younger generation.
As Peng Ying, Industrial Development Specialist of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, said in her speech, “Youth drives the progress of society. As a member of the judging panel in the college student environmental creativity competition, I am deeply impressed by the passion of the Chinese youth for environmental protection and sustainable development, and their willingness to contribute to this cause.” The representatives of the participating teams introduced their creative designs from various angles. From paint buckets made in different shapes to recyclable solutions with both practical functions and novel features, these creative works are a vivid showcase of the wild imagination of young people. In particular, the designs for the recycling bags on the Winter Olympic theme have captured the essence of the “sustainable future” concept of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, and showed the students’ innovative thinking and understanding of sustainability in multiple dimensions. In the meantime, based on the targeted themes and scenarios of their designs, as well as the feasibility of production, marketing principles and other conditions, the students interactively analyzed the current situation of different environmental issues and the possibility of practical application of their works.
